Rain Rain , plz come again! yehi dhun me hamesha gaya karta tha! Bachpan se aajtak!
But what happened with me last wednesday was shocking and i wish it never rain again atleast aise to nahi!
The monsoons are gone, its October heat all over bombay (i still prefer this name for the city as i love it) and no one knew that still there's a lot to come from the clouds!
It wasnt the traditional rains, instead goofy thunder storms and lightning.
I was already down with cough and cold on that day so decided to have a visit to doc or atleast get some meds from checmist. As usual whenever i leave home directly come to a heavenly place (god knows whats in there so heavenly) called -naka! and as soon as i was there it started with strong winds, rain and beautiful strikings in the sky. A glittering spark which turns nights into day and a huge bolt of sound following.
It was getting stronger and frequent. i was wet, cursing myself why i came out as my health was so bad tht cdnt even smoke, so wht was i doing there! Decided not to go office tonite as night shift was looking too tough for that day! Called up and as soon as i started talking to my colleague a huge lightning fell onthe road some od 25-30 feets away from me. My phone almost fell..line got disconnected. my another friend standing next to me talking on his cell threw the phone away from him fearing that it wd catch him! we both in a state of shock switched off our phones. and were recalling what was that as we cd still see the smoke around and smell the burning! suddenly saw few people running alongwith an auto to a doctor just next to where i was standing. inside the auto i horribly saw a person lying unconcious. A big strong man, clothes almost torn apart from body. What has happened to him? I asked furiously..... bijli lag gayee...some one from the crowd said. dono ko pata nahi achnak kya ho gaya? i was taken aback- what do you mean by dono??
and saw that in the corner of the backseat of auto lies a another person in same state. O god!! He was not even a teen. the doctor(Dr Pandey) came rushing out checked the big mans pulses!! tick-tick NO! no indications of life(but till tht moment only he knew it). "inko kisi hospital le ke jao! thats all he said.
My friend pushed me and said lets take them to hospital! is he serious! its still raining badly, another lightning can struck anytime and im in worst of my health!! wht can we do?? but then who will do it.
I took my active made my friend sit behind, asked another person to get into tht auto and instruct the autowala -chalo tirupati(only hospital nearby). we hardly went 100 mtrs and realized they need immediate attention! stopped the auto asked the guy to come out and started pumping both the guys! splashed water and even slapped softly! the kid opened his eyes and it was nearly a miracle (atleast for us at that instant). Looking at that i started pumping heavily but i was out of auto and the guy was lying inside. I didnt have the courage but still did it..... sandwiched my hands between his and my mouth and tried giving some forced oxygen....i never had did it before neither was i trained for this. some more friends of mine joined in, i asked if anyone know how to do it but no one! i only saw it on TV, tried it, again tried it....prayed...bhagwan bachle isko........! but god missed tht prayer in the huge blasts of lightnings.
moved the kid to a nearby joint nad asked the auto guy to continue...... we knew we had a better doctor ahead, we went wrongside on the road, stopped the comming traffic shouting as emergency..emergency..(thts a strong word in daily indian life), doc came out checked the pulses, said he needs some huge shocks, get him to a hospital as he is not equipped. Another downer for us.without wasting time we moved to Tirupati. we had to cross highway and tht too in the evening at around 7 pm. we broke all signals, my friend showed real daring standing infront of a speeding BEST bus, stopping all adjacent traffic just to let tht auto pass on other side. his slippers got loosened as we were already wet, he threw them. when we reached Hospital, it was on 1st floor of the building. lift not sure where it was no strecther, no ambulance. we were 3, lift that person anyhow(as he was getting heavier) brought him up asked for doctor, Dr came in checked him for seconds and directly asked us to take him to bhagwati. we insisted doctor 'try smthng'...... 'there is no one from his family at the moment..... need your help'. But his reply was his industry standard....."time aur waste mat karo....inko jaldi leke jao!
we were helpless, sad, devastated, wet all over..... almost no ray of hope now..... but we have more to give. we picked him up again(this time he felt more heavier). put him back in the same auto(thanks god he was there with us) and took him to another nearby hospital as we knew taking him to bhagwati will need atleast 1 hour and that hospital(tirupati) did not have ambulance.
again we were on the higway shouting every passing by vehicle to get aside, but our auto was too slow to follow us. In no time we reched another hospital put the man on stretcher and make the way inside emergency room. The doctors took their time but could not do anything except ask to take him to Bhagwati hospital. Everything was lost. All the efforts, hardship, shouting, pumping everything was in vain!! The mans family was already there.... i knew his son, was a student of my dad a few years back. I felt very bad, very sad but there was nothing i cd do, except say: " Rain Rain plz come again but plz go on a better note!
